Crickets in Las Vegas

← Pest Library

From late summer into fall, crickets can show up by the thousands around Valley homes, drawn in by lights at night. They’re harmless to people, but the noise and the mess are real, and they attract the scorpions and spiders that feed on them.

Where they come from

Crickets breed in landscaping and open desert, then move toward light and shelter at night. Here’s where they pile up:

  • Porch lights, garage lights, and lit windows
  • Garage doors and doorways
  • Block walls and landscape rock
  • Under doormats, planters, and patio furniture

A cricket problem is often a scorpion problem waiting to happen. Scorpions follow their food.

What our treatment does

We treat around your foundation, doorways, garage, and the landscaping where crickets gather and hide. That cuts down how many reach the house and get inside.

What treatment can’t do

We’ll be straight with you: during a big swarm, new crickets move in every night from beyond your property. Treatment reduces the numbers around your home, but no one can stop a seasonal migration.

What actually helps

  • Change the lights. Switch to yellow or warm LED bulbs, and turn off outdoor lights you don’t need.
  • Seal the doors. Add door sweeps and fix gaps in garage door seals.
  • Sweep them up. Clear dead crickets daily. Piles smell and attract scorpions.

Common questions

Are crickets harmful?

Not to people. They don’t bite or spread disease, but large numbers are noisy, can chew fabric and paper, and smell when they die in piles. The bigger concern is that they’re food for scorpions and black widows.

When is cricket season in Las Vegas?

Crickets usually build up in late summer and peak into early fall, especially on warm nights. Numbers drop off once the weather cools.

How do I stop a cricket chirping inside?

Chirping crickets are usually males hiding in a garage, laundry room, or behind appliances. A sticky trap along the wall or a quick vacuum catches them, and door sweeps keep more from getting in.

Tips and tricks

Turn off the porch light. Lights are the single biggest cricket magnet. During swarm season, turning off outdoor lights or switching to yellow bulbs can make a bigger difference than anything else you do.
